Terms of use

The agreement between you and Letopis: your account, your books, purchases from authors and the platform fee.

Version of 12 October 2026

1. Who we are and what this agreement covers

Letopis is operated by Denis Fedorovici, a private individual, str. Studenților 5, MD-4839 Stăuceni, mun. Chișinău, Republic of Moldova. More in the “Legal notice”.

These terms apply to the Letopis site, the studio and the reader. By creating an account or using the service you accept them.

Questions: “Help” on the site or [email protected].

2. Governing law and consumer rights

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Moldova.

If you are a consumer living in the European Union, you keep the mandatory protections of your country’s law (Regulation (EC) No 593/2008, “Rome I”).

3. Your account

An account is created with an email and a password, or with Google. You must be at least 16; books rated 18+ open only after you confirm your age. Children have a site of their own, “Letopis Kids”.

You are responsible for what is done from your account and for keeping your password safe.

For breaking the rules a moderator may warn you, close reviews and comments for a while or block the account. A blocked account can still sign in and read its library and the books it bought, but cannot write reviews or comments, report or publish books. The reason comes by email, and every decision can be appealed.

4. The studio and drafts

The studio runs in your browser. Until a book is moved to your account it lives only in that browser, and clearing the browser erases it. Books in your account open on any of your devices.

Pictures and sounds from the studio’s set may be used in your own books on Letopis.

Room for your own files: up to 300 MB of pictures, sound and video per book and up to 2 GB for all the books in an account; if you need more, write to support. The studio makes pictures lighter as you add them (up to 2560 pixels on the long side).

Books that aren’t in the catalog — drafts in your account and books shared by link — are deleted with their files if you haven’t signed in for half a year. Two letters come first, a month and a week ahead; to keep the books, just sign in. Books in the catalog and books readers bought are never deleted this way.

5. Your books

Your books remain yours. By publishing a book by link or in the catalog you allow Letopis, free of charge, to store it, show it to readers, split it into chapters, and show its cover and blurb in the catalog, search, emails and link previews — for as long as it is published. A book someone bought from you stays with them after you take it down.

You confirm that you hold the rights to the book’s text, pictures, music and sounds. What may be published is set out in the “Publishing rules”.

6. Publishing and moderation

A book shared by link opens at once. It enters the catalog after a moderator’s review. A moderator may send a book back for changes, raise its age rating or hide it for breaking the rules, and will explain why. Every decision can be appealed.

7. Purchases from authors

Letopis does not sell books. Paid books and subscriptions are sold by the authors themselves, through their own Gumroad and Patreon stores. The author is the seller; payment, taxes, receipts and refunds follow the store’s rules. Letopis never sees your card details.

Once the store reports the payment, the book opens on Letopis — for good, with every update, on all your devices. With a subscription, the author’s books stay open while it is paid. If the money is refunded or the payment disputed, access closes.

How to get your money back: “Refunds”.

8. The platform fee for authors

On sales to Letopis readers an author pays the platform 10%, invoiced once a month. Amounts in other currencies are converted to euros at the European Central Bank’s reference rate on the day of the invoice. An invoice under €5 moves to the next month.

An invoice is due within 14 days. While it is overdue, the author’s paid books leave the catalog; free books stay. Once it is paid they come back by themselves.

How to pay will appear in the “Author’s desk” with the first invoice.

9. Reviews, comments and reports

You can review a book in the catalog once you have reached an ending, and comment under a book’s updates. No insults or harassment, no revealing other people’s data, no advertising and no unmarked spoilers.

An author can answer a review and hide a comment under their book, but cannot delete someone else’s review. Anything that breaks the rules can be reported; moderators handle reports.

10. What you may not do

Disrupt the service, get around limits or the paid part of books, harvest other people’s data, impersonate others, or open new accounts to get around a block. Paid chapters are for those who bought them: do not make them public.

11. Availability and responsibility

We work to keep Letopis available and secure, but cannot promise it always will be: maintenance and failures happen. Long maintenance is announced on the site.

Authors are responsible for their books; we act on breaches when they are reported or found in review.

Nothing here excludes liability that the law does not allow to be excluded.

12. Deleting your account

You can delete your account in the settings. Signing in stops at once, and the data is erased after 30 days. What remains afterwards is set out in the “Privacy” policy.

13. Changes to these terms

We announce material changes on the site and by email at least 30 days in advance. By going on using Letopis after that you accept the new version.
